Sonoma County Casino Cancels NYE Event

After it caught the attention of the health officials in Sonoma County and worried the public in the area, the NYE party at Graton Resort and Casino in Rohnert Park has been canceled. This event had every major probability of being the superspreader event of the region.

In San Jose, church services were held indoors with people wearing no mask. On Christmas eve and the days preceding it, the country saw a record in making for the most number of air travels since the lockdown in March 2020. This comes at a time when a new type of more communicable strain of COVID-19 is found to be emerging from South Africa and the United Kingdom. Despite this, Sonoma County was all set to gather thousands of people to see the big ball drop on the New Year. People around the world are hoping that the pandemic will end with the end of this unfortunate year.

This event organized in Sonoma County was lambasted and bemoaned by many people in the region. This crowd included the healthcare and police officials along with the residents in the area. The entire noise about and for the event came to a stop when the resort announced on its social media platform that the party on New Year’s Eve has been canceled. This announcement was made on Christmas Eve.

A post by Graton Casino Resort on Facebook reads that the resort casino will be closing its doors for all activities at 5 p.m. on December 31, 2020. It goes on to read that every party and gathering for New Year’s Eve has been dropped by the management and the casino is scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. on January 1, 2021.

Unlike the other places in Sonoma County, the property owned by the Federation of Indians of Graton Rancheria is located on land that is designated as a sovereign nation. Thus, this place has the liberty to move around the rules generally prescribed for the area.
